As we wrap up another busy summer, the Lund Fire District is proud to share some of the work our volunteers have been doing to keep our communities safe, prepared, and connected.
Laura Ingalls Wilder Days Parade
We kicked off the season by joining the Laura Ingalls Wilder Days Parade in Pepin, always one of our favorite community traditions. It’s a chance for our firefighters to meet families, wave to the crowd, and show off the apparatus that protects Pepin Township, Maiden Rock Township, Stockholm Township, and the Village of Stockholm. Your support along the parade route means more than you know.

Responding When Needed
Throughout the summer, our crews responded to several calls — from medical assists to fire‑related incidents to vehicle emergencies. Every call is a reminder of why we train, why we prepare, and why volunteer service matters. We’re grateful for the trust our community places in us.
Hose Testing & Equipment Readiness
One of the biggest behind‑the‑scenes projects this summer was annual hose testing. This is a critical part of fire department readiness as every length of hose is pressure‑tested to ensure it can withstand real‑world fireground conditions. The process takes hours and involves laying out hundreds of feet of hose, charging lines, monitoring pressure, and documenting results.
It’s not glamorous work – but it’s essential. Reliable hoses save lives, and our volunteers put in the time to make sure every line on every truck is ready for the next call.

Vehicle Extrication Drills
We also conducted vehicle extrication training, sharpening the skills needed for serious car accidents. These drills included:
- Stabilizing vehicles in unsafe positions
- Practicing tool operations with cutters, spreaders, and struts
- Simulating patient access and removal
- Coordinating multi‑crew rescue operations under realistic nighttime conditions

Extrication is one of the most technical and physically demanding skills in the fire service. Our firefighters trained hard to ensure they’re ready for whatever situation they encounter on the road.
