Neighbors in Service, Partners in Training

The Lund Fire Department spent the evening working alongside our sister department, Pepin Fire, for fire hydrant operations training. Hydrants are one of the most critical pieces of any fire response and getting water established quickly can make all the difference on a scene.

Our crews trained together on:

  • Locating and assessing hydrants in real‑world conditions
  • Proper connection and hookup techniques
  • Establishing a reliable water supply to the engine
  • Managing pressure, flow, and troubleshooting issues
  • Clear communication between hydrant teams and pump operators

It was hands‑on, practical, and exactly the kind of work that keeps both departments sharp and ready.

Sharpening Skills, Strengthening Partnerships

Partnering with Pepin Fire isn’t just convenient — it’s essential. Rural fire service depends on teamwork, and nights like this build the kind of coordination you can’t fake on an emergency scene.

Training together means:

  • Shared experience: Every department brings different knowledge and approaches. When we train side‑by‑side, everyone gets better.
  • Stronger mutual aid: Lund and Pepin respond together often. Familiarity and trust make joint calls smoother and safer.
  • Consistent operations: Hydrant work needs to be predictable. Practicing together ensures both departments operate with the same expectations and communication style.
  • Better protection for our communities: When our departments train together, the entire region benefits.

This is what volunteer fire service is all about — neighbors helping neighbors, departments supporting departments, and everyone working toward the same mission.
