FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Lund, Wisc. (June 13, 2026) – At 9:52 AM on June 13th 2026, Lund Fire Department was dispatched to assist Pepin Ambulance with an injured hiker at Maiden Rock Bluff State Natural Area. The hiker fell approximately 30 feet from a cliff onto a steep hillside below. The injured hiker was heard by two runners on highway 35, who drove to the trailhead, located the victim, and guided firefighters to their location.
Firefighters and ambulance crew members were able to package the injured hiker into a rescue litter, safely navigate them 100 yards up the steep slope to the waiting UTV, then drive them to a helicopter for transport to Mayo Clinic. Rescue efforts were underway for about an hour and a half.
Agencies responding to the incident were Pepin Ambulance, Lund Fire, Pepin Fire, Pepin Sheriffs Department, and Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service Helicopter. Apparatus on scene included one ambulance, one helicopter, three fire engines, one heavy rescue squad, one brush truck, one fire UTV, one police squad, and one civilian UTV.
Lund fire greatly appreciates the mutual aid from Pepin Fire Department on this incident. We also extend our deepest thanks for the good Samaritans who facilitated the rescue.
