LFD celebrated 70th Anniversary
On October 19th the Lund Fire District hosted its biannual Open House, an event that not only showcased the department’s vital work but also fostered a sense of community spirit and pride. The event was a resounding success, with locals coming out in full force to learn about fire safety, meet their local first responders, and enjoy a fun-filled day of interactive activities.
A Day of Learning and Engagement
From the moment the doors opened, the firehouse was buzzing with excitement. Families, neighbors, and local business owners stopped by to explore the variety of educational displays and demonstrations available throughout the day. For many, it was an opportunity to see the behind-the-scenes operations of the Lund Fire District up close and personal.
One of the most captivating highlights of the day was the live vehicle extraction demonstration, where firefighters simulated a rescue operation following a car accident. Using the department’s hydraulic rescue tools—often referred to as the “Jaws of Life”—the crew demonstrated how they safely and efficiently remove a trapped individual from a vehicle. Visitors watched as the firefighters worked together, cutting through metal and carefully stabilizing the simulated patient for transport to a medical facility.

The demonstration was an eye-opening experience for many, emphasizing the precision and teamwork required in high-pressure situations. It also offered a valuable opportunity for the public to learn about the importance of vehicle safety, the crucial role of first responders, and how they can stay safe in the event of an accident.
Interactive Stations for All Ages
The Open House wasn’t just for adults; there were plenty of activities for kids as well. Children had the chance participate in water spraying simulations and explore the fire trucks. The look of awe on the young faces as they climbed aboard the massive engines and honked the horns was priceless.
These activities not only educated the younger generation but also allowed them to develop a deeper appreciation for the critical work of their local fire department.
Community Partnerships and Support
The event would not have been possible without the generous support of local businesses and organizations.
It was a perfect example of how the Lund Fire District is at the heart of the community. The event helped to highlight the important partnerships between local businesses, citizens, and the department, all working together to keep Lund a safe and connected place to live.
Raising Awareness for Fire Safety
At the core of the Open House was the important message of fire safety awareness. Door prizes included smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms to residents, a critical initiative aimed at preventing tragedies before they can happen. Information was also shared on emergency preparedness plans and how to create and practice home evacuation routes.
“We wanted to take this opportunity to not only show the community what we do, but also empower them with the knowledge they need to protect themselves and their families,” said Fire Chief Bob Stein. “Safety is a shared responsibility, and this event was a great way to remind everyone of that.”
A Stronger Bond with the Community
As the day came to a close, the overwhelming sentiment among attendees was one of pride and gratitude. Many expressed how the event helped strengthen their connection with the fire district, making them feel more confident in the district’s ability to keep them safe.
“This Open House is a wonderful way for us to build a stronger bond with the people we serve,” Chief Stein added. “When we work together, we create a safer and more resilient community.”
In the end, the Lund Fire District’s Open House was more than just an event—it was a celebration of community, safety, and the dedicated men and women who serve on the front lines every day. If you missed this year’s Open House, make sure to mark your calendars for 2026when they hold the next event. It’s a day you won’t want to miss!
